Shuttle Fiumicino Tourist guide - Sinagoga
Brought in Rome as slaves in the antiquity, and appreciated for their Knowiegdes, the Hebrews had never been persecuted. But in 1556 the Pope Paolo IV forced them to live inside an I area surrounded with highs walls: the Ghetto. The Hebrews were allowed to go outside of this place only during the journey and, the Sundays they were forced to assist to the Christians masses. The synagogue was built in 1874, a few years after the abolition of these constraints. |
